| A brief history about Beck's |
Since 1959 Beck Paint & Hardware on East McMillan Street has been fully stocked with reasonable prices and knowledgeable help that has attracted neighborhood customers as well as construction professionals. Beck’s was rated "Best in the City" in 2000 for carrying hard-to-find items, like mirror rosettes. Stan and Carolyn Beck inherited the store from Stan’s father, and they now run the store with a crew that includes their children: Amanda, Matt and Jenny, when they are not at school. Chris Beck, Stan’s cousin, started to work there in 1975, part-time and only for the summer. He is now the general manager. Since then the store has gone through many changes. In 1986 another building was bought, and Beck Paint & Decorating Center was born. The Decorating Center is managed by Dave and Don, with Stan’s nephew Rick Beck helping out when he’s not in school. The Decorating Center’s main product is Porter Paints, and they also sell blinds, carpet and paint sundries. |

Seen in the aisles: A favorite accessory of Beck's-the plastic rosette mirror mounts that hide the nail holding up the mirror in your bathroom. Rarely seen in bathrooms today, but long-time standards in older homes, these little rarities are a fun find. |
